The roots of our company go back to 1975; a time when the median U.S. household income was around $13,000 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average hovered below 600. It is also the year that Michael L. Scharf, CPA opened his own accounting firm in Charlotte, NC. Two years later he was joined by Albert Pera, and the two formed a partnership that evolved into what is now Scharf Pera & Co., PLLC.

On May 9, 2014 we lost our dear friend Al Pera. Al passed away following a courageous and determined battle with cancer. We remember him fondly as a mentor, trusted advisor and a man of great integrity. Al was a long-time member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and both the New York and North Carolina Associations of Certified Public Accountants. He served on the Board of Trustees of McLeod Addictive Disease Center for more than twenty years, and he actively supported the North Carolina Dance Theatre and Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte.
He will always be remembered fondly by his family and friends as a man who loved great food, great wine and the arts. Perhaps most of all he loved his business and his clients and never tired of helping people improve their lives. We will always appreciate and honor the values he taught us and the wonderful example he set.
